The boundaries defined in this way do not coincide with the historical division of these territories. Służew (until the beginning of the 16th century Służewo) is a former village in Warsaw. It was located on the territory of two modern districts - Mokotowa (part of the MSI territories: Służew, Ksawerów and Stegny) and Ursynowa (Stary Służew).

The territory of Służewa is surrounded from the south by the Dolinka Służewiecka park; the Służewiecki stream flows along its entire length, and there are ponds here. The two main elements that form the landscape of Służewa are the Służewiecki stream and the Warsaw escarpment.

On the territory of today's Służewa there are two residential areas that make up most of the actual, rather than formal Służewca - Służewiec Południowy and Służewiec Fort.

History of Służewa

The first mention of the settlement of this territory dates back to 1065, when Benedictine monks settled in the Służewca area. They also established a missionary center there. Archaeological finds discovered during work on the slope of the Służewskiego stream confirm that settlements developed here in those years.

In 1234, Duke Konrad of Mazowiecki transferred the lands of Sluzewo to his knight Komesz Gotthard for possession and protection. His task was to protect these lands from the invasions of the Yatvingians, Lithuanians and Prussians.

In 1238 a parish dedicated to św was erected. Katarzyny, first parish in Mazovia. The church built in those years, after reconstruction, still stands in the same place, on a hill not far from today's Dolinie Służewieckiej.

In 1528, according to monastic chronicles, Służew consisted of 7 lands (about 118 hectares).

In 1569, Sigismund III Vasa moved the capital from Krakow to Warsaw; magnates who wanted to be closer to the court began to buy up suburban lands.

In 1631 there was a big fire and the destruction of the church building. Restoration work on the temple began immediately. The temple has been restored to splendor.

In 1655-1658, Swedish troops were stationed in the territory of Służewa, plundering and destroying the entire area.

In 1664, the lands became the property of the Lubomirskis and then the Sobieskis. Jan III Sobieski, who annexed the służewskie lands to the wilanowski estates.

In 1724 Służew and the neighboring village of Wyczółki were acquired by E. Sieniawska.

In the period 1742-1745, thanks to the funding of Augusta Czartoryskiego, the church św. Katarzyny was rebuilt in Baroque style.

In 1818, Czartoryski and Potocki founded their summer residence "Gucin" here.

In the 19th century, the Potocki family lived in Wilanowie and invested a lot of money in Służew: Gucin Park was built near the Służewskiego church, an old cemetery was founded, the church and the villa in which the inn was built were rebuilt.

In 1846, the church was rebuilt in a neo-Romanesque form, which has survived to this day.

At the beginning of the 20th century there was a farm in Służewie.

In 1921, the Służew Manor had 11 houses and 150 residents, the village – 66 farms and 520 residents, Służew Poduchowny – 4 houses and 44 residents.

In 1932, Służew was divided into two parts. The first plot, together with the manor buildings, was bought by pastor Adam Wyrębowski, this is a plot of 250 hectares, and the second was bought by the Dominicans, who wanted to found a monastery on these territories.

In 1935, the monastery complex of the Dominican Fathers was built. A three-story residential building, a chapel and utility rooms are being built on 4 hectares. The entire area is surrounded by a high wall, probably the same one that still stands today.

During the interwar period, at the intersection of Al. Lotnikow and st. Puławskiej began construction of four-story apartment buildings. Even before the Second World War, tram tracks were laid in Służew from Śródmieścia. The Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Sejm and ministers built houses here. Służew has become exclusive.

The residential complex "Służew Fort" is located in the Mokotów district, in the northwestern part of the Służew Municipal Information System. It occupies an area of 25 hectares, bounded in the south by Lotników Alley, in the west by the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, in the north by Wilanowską Alley and in the east by Puławską Street. Its territory is crossed, among others, by the streets Zygmunta Modzelewskiego, Wita Stwosza and Niedźwiedzia. It is located near Fort VIIA "Służewiec".

The complex was built in 1972–1977. There are 16-storey high-rise buildings and characteristic 11-storey buildings over 200 meters long, built using Wk-70 large-panel technology. There are relatively large spaces between buildings. In the eastern part, near Irysowej and Wita Stwosza streets, there is a block of single-family houses. The total number of apartments is 3,450 apartments, designed for approximately 11,000 residents. Kindergartens, a primary school, a children's playground, and trade and service pavilions were also designed.

Later, the development of the complex was supplemented, in particular, by the University of Łazarskiego, the Cultural Center of the Barnabit Fathers and the residential buildings Manhattan Place, Modra Mokotów and Modra 90.

On the site of former agricultural land, a huge residential complex was built in 1973-1979, enriched in the 21st century with several modern buildings. The urban design involved a combination of extensive green areas and tall buildings (H-frame) with distinctive balconies. The architects created apartments with much greater comfort than those designed at that time (especially in the experimental block, the so-called Chemiku). The complex has received several national and international awards. The complex has memorials, murals, playgrounds, gyms, fountains, parking lots, and kindergartens.

The complex consists of two parts: Western (built as Służew nad Doliną I) and Eastern (Służew nad Doliną II), bounded by the streets Puławska, Wałbrzyska, Kmicica, Łukową, as well as Dolinka Służewska with Potokiem Służewieckim from the south. It occupies an area of 52.4 hectares.

The residential complex “Służew nad Dolinką” consists of four parts – northern, western, central and eastern. In 1974-1979 41 residential buildings were built. Of these, 28 are high-rise buildings (11–14 floors), 2 are medium-sized buildings (5–7 floors) and 11 are low-rise buildings (4–5 floors). Three houses were built in the 21st century. The complex was called a residential complex of the future, where people wanted to see good architecture. It was to become one of the elements of the residential development belt from Natolina in Ursynowie to Tarchomina in Prage, and the main communication axis was to be the metro. A settlement for 25 thousand people was to be built on 50 hectares of land, gently sloping in the direction of the służewskiego stream.

The houses were built using an innovative design called the longitudinal H-frame system. All apartments were designed with floor plans, all kitchens were bright, every apartment had a balcony, and every bathroom could accommodate a large bathtub and washing machine. The average apartment size was 52 m2. The buildings were quite strong, but the finishing left much to be desired. The facades of the blocks were refreshed with balconies, which became the hallmark of the complex.

The tallest buildings were 11 stories high; these blocks were the dominant feature of the complex. Small two- or three-story houses were located closest to the green area near the stream. The area was decorated with earth from excavations, and an amphitheater was built in the western part of the complex. The main pedestrian routes were directed to the planned southern end of the Służew metro station, which was supposed to provide unobstructed access.

The designers paid great attention to greenery and small architecture. In this way they wanted to preserve the existing character of this area of the city. Interconnected green oases, gazebos, benches and recreation areas were designed. There are about 3,000 trees growing in the complex. The complex has a landscape layout that, together with the Dolina Służewska park, serves as an aeration channel.

The modern sports complex Arena Służew was built in the complex in 2008. It consists of a football field and two volleyball courts, one with grass and the other with sand. In 2013, an outdoor gym was built next to the sports ground. An outdoor gym was also built next to the amphitheater.

There are 14 children's playgrounds. The largest playground is located next to the Wałbrzyska sports ground.

The Chemik building was one of the two earliest built. Chemik (Chemikaliowiec, Plastikowiec, Wałbrzyska street no. 19) is an experimental building, one of four in the country. Construction managers, prominent activists and cooperative leaders received apartments here.

The block, covered with a blue and cream colored trapezoidal sheet, was the first time in Warsaw that plastics were used on a large scale: from plastic windows to furniture: interior wall cladding (wallpaper), floor coverings, skirting boards and accordion walls. Nature in the Służew neighborhood

Zalew Służewiecki (Jeziorko Służewieckie) - Służewieckie Bay (Służewieckie Lake) is one of the ponds on the route of the Służewieckiego stream flowing from Szczęśliwic (the sources are located a few tens of meters from Chopin Airport) to the Wilanowskiego lake. This storage (flood protection) reservoir was restored in 2015. Then a pier was formed, three islands on the pond for servicing birds and a dam with a drain over which a metal bridge passes. - Dolinka Służewiecka is a city park in Warsaw, which stretches along the Służewieckiego stream. It has the shape of a crescent on the southern border of Służewa. There are several small ponds with banks covered with reeds. The area is overgrown with trees. Dolinka Służewiecka is a city park and recreation area. There are easily accessible viewing platforms and wide paths. There is a children's playground, which in shape and color fits perfectly into the landscape of the park. Around there are sports grounds, cycling and jogging paths, gyms, sculptures, boulders, secluded trees on the territory of former garden plots and a roller skating area. The park consists of two parts, separated by a viaduct. To the south there is an interactive Jurassic Park-themed playground.

Park named after Romana Kozłowski - a green area of about 10 hectares, located on Ursynowie Północnym near the border with Mokotowem. It extends from Doliny Służewieckiej, under the viaduct of the street. Surowieckiego to the so-called Olkóweka (where Jurassic Park and the Fields are located). There are not many trees in the park; open space, alleys and bicycle paths predominate.

Most of the park is occupied by an artificial elevation, 108 m high, which is about 20 meters of relative height. The initiator of its creation was engineer Henrik Kvil. He decided that it would be more profitable to create an elevation from the waste generated from the construction than to remove it. This is what happened, and the resulting elevation was named after him.

Social sphere in the Służew microdistrict

Transport in the service area is normal. Here is the station of the first metro line Służew.
